Measure with a bottle, or a ruler
Drop a ruler into the pocket until it touches the bottom. That depth, plus the inch or two of pocket fabric that stretches above a bottle, is roughly how long an umbrella can be before it wobbles. Easier still: take the bottle that fits snugly, measure its height, and use that number.
