How they work
A small fan sits on the shaft just under the canopy. A water reservoir, usually a bottle in or on the handle, feeds a pump that sprays a mist into the fan's airflow. The umbrella blocks the sun; the fan and mist cool you through evaporation.
Mist cools best when the air is dry. In very humid heat, the effect is weaker.

Power. Rechargeable or disposable batteries, and how you charge it.
Water. How the bottle attaches and whether any standard bottle fits.
Canopy. Size and whether the fabric has a stated UPF rating. Treat a UPF claim without a maker page as the seller's claim.
